Choosing a school starts with a practical question: does it fit the student and the family’s everyday life? A list of names cannot answer that. We revisit three schools from the previous article, replacing its unsupported best-school ranking with details you can check and compare.

King’s College Soto: a British pathway in Tres Cantos
The Soto de Viñuelas campus is in Tres Cantos, outside Madrid city. Its secondary-school information describes a pathway through IGCSEs, followed by a choice between A-levels and the IB Diploma Programme. Its offer should not be described as exclusively A-level based.
Ask about transferring from your child’s current system, available subjects and specific language support. A qualification’s name does not, by itself, guarantee a university place.
SEK-Ciudalcampo: look at the relevant age group
SEK-Ciudalcampo presents education from the early years to age 18 and International Baccalaureate programmes. Its published address is Paseo de las Perdices, 2, Ciudalcampo. Confirm which programme applies to the student’s age and which languages are used for individual subjects.
Take questions about tutoring, assessment and communication with families to your visit. Understanding how the school handles an everyday difficulty is more useful than relying only on descriptions of its facilities.
Retamar: educational approach and admissions
Retamar is in Pozuelo de Alarcón and describes an educational project with Christian roots. Its own information distinguishes mixed early-years education from boys’ education starting at Primary. That matters when deciding whether to enquire about a place, and the previous article omitted it.
Ask about the curriculum and fees for the particular stage you need. Conditions applying to one stage should not be assumed to cover every programme on its website.
A comparison sheet for any school
- Journey: estimate travel during school hours and ask about bus routes.
- Budget: request separate figures for tuition, enrolment, meals, transport, materials and examinations.
- Learning: ask how teaching is adapted to the student’s needs.
- School life: request the procedure for reporting concerns and receiving follow-up.
- Admissions: confirm places, deadlines, assessments and conditions in writing.
