The right machine solves a specific job on your farm and can be maintained throughout its working life. Before comparing agricultural machinery in Spain, describe the task, area, terrain and seasonal timetable. Buying more capacity than you need also brings costs.
Prepare a requirements sheet
List the operations, expected working hours and equipment the machine must work with. Ask the supplier to confirm compatibility in writing: power, attachments, connections, dimensions and relevant limitations. Any demonstration should be conducted by trained people in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions.
Compare ownership with rental or hiring a contractor to do the job. If you need equipment for only a few days each year, purchase price is only part of the calculation. Transport, storage, maintenance and availability during busy periods may alter the decision.
Finding suppliers
Start with the manufacturer’s official dealer network and suppliers offering technical support in your area. Exhibitor directories for FIMA in Zaragoza and Agroexpo in Don Benito, in Badajoz province, can help identify sector businesses. Check the edition and current dates before arranging travel: an old fair page is not automatically an announcement of the next event.
For classified advertisements, verify the seller’s identity, the actual location and the specific machine offered. Arrange an inspection before making a substantial commitment. Photographs and advertised operating hours do not replace a technical assessment.
Used equipment: look beyond appearance
- Identification, serial number, ownership and documents.
- Maintenance history and known repairs.
- Safety equipment and accessory compatibility.
- Spare parts, technical support and transport arrangements.
- Price inclusions and the terms recorded in writing.
Check registration and grants first
Spain’s Ministry of Agriculture explains the role of ROMA, the official agricultural machinery register. Ask the competent regional authority which registration, ownership-transfer or documentation requirements apply to the particular equipment. Different transactions may require different procedures.
Do not include a grant in your budget as though it has already been awarded. At this guide’s review date, the official Plan Renove portal states that applications for the 2026 round have closed. Check future calls and their conditions before buying on the assumption that funding will be available.
Make the final comparison like for like
Request comparable proposals covering delivery, commissioning, training, maintenance and exclusions. A competitively priced machine may prove inconvenient if technical support is difficult to obtain during the days when you need it most.
