Wealth lists combine changing market values with assets that can be difficult to compare. The previous Spanish version of this page did not document a sufficient method for ranking Spain’s richest women. That ranking has been withdrawn. The revised article introduces five people through the public work of their foundations.
This is neither an exhaustive selection nor a measure of wealth, personal merit or social impact. A foundation’s resources are distinct from its chair’s private assets, and an organisation’s results should not all be attributed to one individual.
Sandra Ortega and Fundación Paideia Galiza
Paideia’s website identifies Sandra Ortega Mera as its president. The organisation describes a mission involving equal opportunities, training and the development of people and communities. That information documents social projects without establishing how she manages private investments or interests in companies.
Alicia Koplowitz and support for children
The Alicia Koplowitz Foundation describes training and research in child and adolescent psychiatry alongside social assistance for children. Its history brings together two institutions, active from 1994 and 2003, which merged in 2005. That chronology is more accurate than giving every activity the same starting year.
Esther Koplowitz: research and social assistance
Her foundation dates its formal establishment to December 1995. It describes biomedical research, education and support for vulnerable people. To assess a particular project, read its documentation and follow-up; the project’s existence alone does not demonstrate a specific medical or social outcome.
María del Pino y Calvo-Sotelo
The Rafael del Pino Foundation’s governance page identifies her as president. Created by Rafael del Pino in 1999, the foundation’s purposes include training and support for entrepreneurship. This revision corrects the incomplete name in the previous article and distinguishes the president from the founder.
Hortensia Herrero and cultural heritage
The Hortensia Herrero Foundation identifies her as its president and trustee. Its mission concerns art and culture through projects in the Valencian Community. Annual reports and project pages help establish what happened and when, without presenting an old proposal as a completed project.
Checking claims about wealth and philanthropy
- Find the date and methodology behind a wealth estimate.
- Distinguish share ownership, an executive position and foundation leadership.
- Do not equate an announced donation with completed expenditure or evaluated impact.
- Read annual reports and accounts with their reporting periods in mind.
Who ranks first by net worth?
This article does not establish that. Its sources verify identities and institutional activity, but do not provide a complete, comparable valuation of every Spanish woman’s private net assets on one date.
