A commercial website, a technical manual and a certificate for an authority need different language services. Before comparing translation companies in Spain, define what you will submit, who will receive it and what it is for. That context matters as much as the language pair: it helps avoid buying work that does not meet the intended requirement.
Written translation and spoken interpreting
Translation deals with written material; interpreting supports conversations, meetings or speeches. For a conference, explain whether speakers will pause for an interpreter or whether simultaneous interpreting and equipment are needed. For a document, supply a legible copy and establish whether tables, images and layout must also be reproduced.
When to check sworn translation requirements
If an institution requests official documents, ask what it accepts and in which format first. Spain’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs explains the official status of work by authorised professionals and provides a route to its search directory. Check the language and whether the authorisation covers translation, interpreting or both. The page also links to competent authorities for other official languages in Spain.
Legal translation concerns legal subject matter; that does not automatically make it sworn translation. An agency cannot determine acceptance by every institution in every country. Confirm the recipient’s requirements before commissioning the work.
What to include in a quotation request
- Source language, target language and the audience’s country.
- Purpose and subject area: website, product, tourism or technical material.
- Complete files, required output format and delivery date.
- Glossary, product names and previous wording that should remain consistent.
- Included review, revision rounds and an error-correction process.
- Confidentiality arrangements and whether external AI tools are permitted.
